Pipelines of Web 2.0

This week's lecture highlighted a new way of finding information on a particular thing, person or organization. The lecture emphasized on yahoo's program that creates pipelines that links your search to various social media tools. Our professor showed us step by step on how to obtain the best information to acquire the overall information for your search. The first step that was done was create an account on the yahoo pipeline's website, after doing that we had to come up with something to search for. After we had our search, we had to then go to well-known social media sites such as Twitter, Technorati, Youtube, and Google Reader to look for your search. Once you would find information regarding your search you would then obtain it's RSS and add it to your pipeline. After completing all of your searches you would then connect all of your social media sites with "pipes" and then have all your information be sent to one site. Yahoo's pipelines are being used by the masses; with technlogy on the break many people are being aware of the advantages that Web 2.0 has brought to their attention. A variety of individuals have used this site for their personal and professional reasons.

I believe that this is a great way of saving time and effort in searching for your information. Yahoo pipelines are also good way to check your information and other searches that are of interest to you. This new social media tool is a great assest to anyone searching from multiple social media sites. Using yahoo pipelines is a eminent way to take advantage of the great ways of Web. 2.0.

Pipelines seem to be a very effective tool for searching the web, especially items that are on sale or recently become on sale. At first i was hesitant because it was hard to catch on to it. If every student could learn this vital tool i believe it can help sift through the tons and tons of data to find what you really need.

I recognize that Pipelines are a powerful tool, simply because of all that I have been shown with regards to what they can do. However, I'm still having a hard time conceptualizing what they are. I am excited by what this service provides and look forward to eventually using it. But, before then I think I might need Pipelines explained to me one more time.
